Every Christmas I make gingerbread and this
year I made a little house using a classic easy recipe.
Ingredients
300 g brown sugar
1000 g golden syrup
250 g butter
100 g eggs
1320 g self raising flour
30 g mixed spice
40 g ground ginger
Method
Place sugar, syrup and butter in a mixing
bowl and mix evenly. Add egg and combine. Add flour and spices and mix until a
dough is formed. Place the dough in cling wrap and allow cooling in the fridge
for at least 30 minutes. Roll the dough out to 4 mm thickness and place on a
paper lined baking tray. Bake in a preheated oven on 180ºC normal bake for
approx. 12 min. Allow cooling before cutting the shapes from the template. You
will need 1 bottom piece (21 x15 cm), 2 side pieces (8 x 14 cm), 2 end pieces
(11 x 17 cm) and 2 roof pieces (18 x 11 cm). Make a royal icing with eggwhites
and icing sugar. Glue the pieces together with the icing and decorate with a
variation of candy and chocolate.
Note:
Use the same dough to make gingerbread men and
biscuits.
Here is a picture of the templates I use.
The brown is the bottom, green the roof, rectangular yellow is the side and the
other yellow is for the end pieces.
