A Lumumba is a long drink named after the Congolese politician Patrice Lumumba and consists of cacao, occasionally accompanied by cream and a shot of rum. Several alternative recipes replace the rum with amaretto or brandy. This is the version I grew up with and still like.
1 part cognac or brandy
5 part chocolate milk
5 crushed ice cubes
Method
Put ice cubes in a tall glass and add cognac. Pour in the chocolate milk and stir. Serve with a chocolate mint leave and a straw.
Or
4 parts cognac, 2 parts chocolate liqueur and milk
Fill a mixing glass with ice cubes. Add chocolate liqueur and cognac. Top up with milk. Shake and strain into a highball glass.
Note: Chocolate and cognac always tastes great together and you can also add shaved chocolate on top or dust with cocoa powder.
