Yogurt and Honey Bread

This yogurt bread is moist with a hint of tartness with a pleasant honey flavour.

Ingredients make 1 loaf

40 g butter
85 g honey
250 ml plain yogurt
1 teaspoon salt
1 packet dried yeast (7g)
600 g white bread flour

Method

Place honey and butter in a pot and heat gently until butter is melted. Place in a large bowl with yogurt, salt and yeast. Add flour and mix until the dough is smooth and elastic, approx. 10 minutes by hand or 5 minutes by machine. Place the dough in the bowl and cover with a towel. Allow proofing for approx. 90 minutes or until doubled in size. Place the dough on a floured table and deflate. Form the dough into a log shape and place on a greased baking tray. Cover with a towel and proof for approx. 60 minutes. Preheat oven to 180ÂșC normal bake. Remove the towel and cut slashes in the bread with a sharp knife. Bake in the oven for approx. 25 minutes. Brush the top with butter when the bread is finished baked and place on a wire. Allow cooling for 15 minutes before cutting.

Note: You can also use buttermilk instead of yogurt.
