Jaffle Maker
Is it conceivable we are in the middle of
the Jaffle evolution or are they just being rediscovered? It is now possible to
get a variety of modern version of the old classic toasted sandwich “the
jaffle” in many Australian cafés and restaurants. The classic “jaffle”
originated is Australia and South Afrika and is a simple combination of eatable
ingredients positioned between two pieces of bread placed in the jaffle iron. After
being toasted for a few minutes, a golden closed sandwich is warm and ready to
eat. It can only be a jaffle if the edges are sealed and the bread is forming a
pocket around the ingredients.
Most people in Australia has a jaffle iron
with them going camping and I am told that a baked bean jaffle is the most
commonly eaten around campsites. These old fashioned irons are clamped together
and placed in the campfire.
It has been possible for years to buy electrical
jaffle makers since 1974 to make your own Jaffles at home or in the cafés and
restaurants. These machines are available in many electrical stores or online
with a price range between 15.00 and 140.00 A$. Here is a picture of my little
jaffle maker.

Panini Sandwich
Panini is a sandwich made with a piece of Italian style
bread cut in half horizontally and sandwiched together with filling of your
choice.
Method
Split Panini bread in half horizontal and brush or drizzle each half with olive oil. Place the fillings on the bottom half of the bread such as Italian cold meats, cheeses, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, basil, peppers or pimientos. Place the top half of the bread on the filling and cut into four pieces. Place in a sandwich grill or under the grill in the oven and cook until the filling is warm and the bread golden brown. Remove from the grill and serve immediately.
Note: If Panini
bread is unavailable use other Italian style bread such as Ciabatta or Poolish
pan bread.

Aussie Hamburger with the Lot
The Great Aussie Works Burger, also called Aussie Hamburger with the lot, is a traditional good old OZ burger served in many fish and chip shops all over Australia . This Hamburger sandwich is also available on many pubs, coffee shops and restaurants menu. It usually consists of toasted bun, barbeque sauce, beef, cheese, onion, bacon, egg, pineapple, beetroot, tomato, iceberg lettuce and is served with hot chips. An OZ Hamburger is a large meal with plenty of flavour and echoes the Australian way of good living like abundance of summer, surf and sunshine.

Aussie Hamburger
The Australian Hamburger sandwich served in many fish and chips shops is different to the other counterparts with always containing a slice of beetroot. Basically it is a Hamburger with a bun split in half and toasted, sandwiched and layered with barbeque or tomato sauce, a beef patty, grilled onions, a slice of beetroot, a slice of tomato, iceberg lettuce and served with hot potato chips. This is a more contemporary way to mix the burger meat, though I mostly use good lean beef mince for my Hamburgers.
