Sangria

Sangria is a delicious Spanish punch made with red wine, fresh, seasonal fruit and fizzy water or citrus flavoured soda. It is extremely easy to make and perfect for the hot summer days. The best part of Sangria is you can use a selection of different wines in the recipe mix and more often than not the chilled leftover wines from the day before can be used in the punch. On top of this you can spice it up by adding your favourite fruits, spice and liquors. Chill the punch and enjoy the summer afternoons.

Ingredients

1 bottle Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot or Shiraz (750ml)
2 tbls caster sugar (40g)
1 lemon
1 orange
1 lime
2 cups lemonade (500ml)
30 ml brandy

Method

Pour wine and sugar into a punchbowl, stir until sugar is dissolved. Cut lemon, orange and lime in wedges or half slices and add to the bowl. Cover the bowl and allow cooling in the fridge for at least 2 hours. Add lemonade and brandy before serving.

Note: If you need to make quick sangria use chilled red wines, fruits and ice. Use other types of soda waters instead of lemonade such as ginger ale. Apply fruits such as strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries fresh or frozen instead of ice. Add liquors such as gin, tequila or rum.
