Hamburger and Hot Dog Buns

This yeast recipe can be used to make hamburger buns, hot dog buns or a sandwich loaf and is really easy to make at home.

Ingredients

500 g milk
250 g water
100 g butter
1100 g plain flour
2 packet of instant yeast (18g)
4 tbsp caster sugar (56g)
1 tbsp salt (24g)

Method

Preheat oven to 200ºC normal bake or 180ºC fan forced. Heat milk, water and butter in a saucepan until lukewarm and butter is melted while stirring. Place flour, sugar, salt and yeast in a large bowl and combine. Mix milk mixture into the flour mixture and keep mixing until dough develops. Place the dough on a lightly floured table and keep kneading until it is smooth. Divide the dough into portions, hamburger buns 900g makes 12, hot dog buns 600g makes 12 and 500g makes 1 loaf. Divide the dough for hamburgers buns and roll them into round balls. Place the balls on a lightly greased baking tray and flatten slightly with a flat hand. Cover with a clean towel. Divide the dough for hot dog rolls and roll them into long sausage shapes. Place them on a lightly greased tray and cover with a towel. Shape the dough for the loaf, place in a greased tin and cover with a towel. Allow dough to rise for approx. 30 minutes and bake buns for approx. 12 minutes. The loaf takes approx 25 minutes. Allow cooling on a wire.

Note: These buns can be stored in plastic bags in the freezer or fridge until needed. Spray or brush some water on the dough after shaping and drizzle some seeds on top.
